The Emil Bach House, located at 7415 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago, Illinois, was constucted in 1915 and is recognized as one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s last Prairie style houses. Built for the brick maker Emil Bach, the house was designed with a very compact plan of under 2000 square feet with three small bedrooms and a sun deck on the second floor. Over the years the sun deck and porch were filled in to increase the year round living space along with a number of other changes. Recently the interior of the house was partially restored by the previous owner. The Bach House was named a City of Chicago Landmark in 1977 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
Harboe Architects was engaged by Tawani Enterprises to complete the interior and exterior restoration of the house including the replication of missing art glass windows, replication of missing interior millwork, and the installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system. The exterior restoration included the removal of the later changes to the sun deck and porch so that the house regained its original design integrity. Work included exterior masonry, concrete and stucco restoration as well as rebuilding of retaining walls and other site work.
